Kaw Valley Almanac - Ken Lassman

If you haven't happened upon the Kaw Valley Almanac, we're so glad you're here to find this series of astute observations and joyous moments from the land, right here along the Kaw River. Each entry in the almanac is penned by Ken Lassman, naturalist, land steward, and lifelong resident of Douglas County, Kansas. Ken is a dear friend to the Native Lands Restoration Collaborative team - we've shared many walks on the land, celebrating the diversity of the prairie, pondering solutions to the problems that threaten native landscapes, thinking creatively about community engagement. We've learned a lot from those moments with Ken. We're grateful now to connect you to one of his passion projects. Check out this short glimpse into winter and follow the link below to the Kaw Valley Almanac, which is published once a week in one of our local papers, The Lawrence Times.

From Ken, "These cardinals are puffed up into round tennis balls to stay warm and also maybe bursting with happiness about the daily increase in daylight in the Light of Day Returns Moon! Stay warm, everyone."

The Nature Gang blog connects everyone in our community through shared stories. It is a creative space that helps people engage with the land, the animals, the water, the sky and each other. We are grateful for every moment shared and hope these stories inspire and unite our community. If you have a story to share, a photo of a favorite moment in nature, a poem the birds whispered in your ears, send it our way. A peek at the world through your eyes may spark innovation! Reach out to us at NativeLandsKS@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
